It’s been a few years, but Steven Spielberg is finally set to return to the big screen this summer thanks to the release of Disclosure Day. The sci-fi film features a host of stars like Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, and more, and it will take place on the day that humanity discovers they’re not alone in the universe. Spielberg is also responsible for some of the biggest movies in history; whether it’s his work with franchises like Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park, or standalone Oscar-winning war epics like Saving Private Ryan (starring Tom Hanks). Spielberg has done more than enough to earn his spot as one of the greatest filmmakers of all-time, and although he’s nearly 80 years old, he’s showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Spielberg has released plenty of big sci-fi projects over the years, but one of his most underrated entries in the genre came less than 10 years ago with Ready Player One. The sci-fi film stars Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon) and Tye Sheridan (Mud), and it’s set in a dystopian world where most people spend their days living out fantasies in the video game world known as the OASIS. The film is based on the first in a two-part novel series from Ernest Cline, and it’s already been confirmed that a second live-action film is on the way, though updates on the project have been sparse for years. Yesterday, Ten Speed confirmed that a graphic adaptation of the first Ready Player One novel will be released exclusively at Target later this year on October 6, before a wide release next year on March 2027. The graphic novel adaptation of Ready Player Two will arrive around the world sometime in 2028 at a currently unspecified date.
The Wizard of Oz used to be televised around Easter every year. So in that tradition, we're taking this opportunity to test your Emerald City acumen.
Disclosure Day, the next film from Steven Spielberg, will arrive in theaters everywhere on June 12. Universal Pictures has released an eerie synopsis for the sci-fi epic, which reads as follows:
“If you found out you weren’t alone, if someone showed up, proved it to you, would that frighten you?”
David Koepp, writer of the first Jurassic Park movie, penned the script for Disclosure Day, which also stars Eve Hewson, Mckenna Bridger, Wyatt Russell, Colin Firth, Elizabeth Marvel, and more.
