The BBC has pulled Season 2 of documentary series Ashley Cain: Into The Danger Zone after The Guardian newspaper uncovered the presenter’s alleged historical misogynistic remarks.

The British broadcaster said it had “no plans” to air the True North-produced series, adding that Cain’s historical X/Twitter messages were “completely unacceptable.”

The former professional footballer, who previously appeared on MTV’s Ex on the Beach, was accused of describing women as “slags,” “sluts,” and “bitches” on X/Twitter.

This included a message to one woman in 2015 in which he allegedly told her to “suck a dick, and f**k off.” In another 2014 remark, he is accused of writing to a second woman: “Go and choke on a cock you slut.”

A BBC spokesperson said: “The posts by Ashley Cain, albeit from many years ago, are completely unacceptable. The BBC has clear requirements around vetting and social media checks, which are undertaken by the production company.

“In this instance, the process clearly failed and we are investigating why. We are continuing to strengthen our processes to ensure everyone working for, and on behalf of, the BBC meets our values and standards. We have no plans to broadcast the new series of Into the Danger Zone, and no future projects with Ashley Cain.”

Cain has not responded to Deadline’s request for comment. His X/Twitter account has been deactivated.

Into The Danger Zone followed Cain as he met young men on the fringes of society in some of the most brutal and intense places in the world. He is no stranger to television, having previously appeared on MTV’s The Challenge.
