While closing out this year’s TRNSMT Festival, Lewis Capaldi opened up about a period his mental health “took a beating” and confirmed he’d be taking some time away to write a new album.

This year’s edition of the three-day event took place on Glasgow Green over the weekend, with Richard AshcroftKasabian, and Capaldi headlining. The latter’s slot last night (June 21) followed him making his return back in November with ‘Survive’, marking his first new music since his 2023 album ‘Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent‘.

It followed a surprise set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury last year, which was a particularly poignant one, given his break from performing live came after he was forced to cut his set on the same stage in 2023 short due to struggling with tics caused by Tourette’s.

Reflecting on a period of poor mental health whilst onstage last night, he told the TRNSMT crowd that the last time he played the festival was in 2022, after which he released a new album. “And then,” he said, “I had a complete and utter mental fucking breakdown.

“Thank you for cheering my mental breakdown. Was not a good couple of years I had, but I’m back and I’m feeling better, I feel good. I’m firing on all cylinders, it’s nice to be here. My mental health took a beating so it’s fucking nice to be here and back with you all.”

Elsewhere in his set, he confirmed that after his scheduled summer dates, he’d be taking some time away. “After this summer,” he said, “I’m gonna go away for a bit and make an album.”

Capaldi previously revealed that several celebrities had lied about checking in on him during his health break, and also opened up about his friendship with Sam Fender and Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten, and shed light on how it inspired him musically.

In other news, Capaldi is topping the bill at BST Hyde Park and Roundhay Festival 2026 on Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12. The massive outdoor gigs will form part of his UK and Ireland headline tour this summer, and you can find any remaining tickets here.

WHEN, he played a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, and ahead of the gig, surprised fans with a pop-up concert outside a florist in New York’s Penn Station. It was there that he debuted new track ‘Stay Love’, and the gig drew such a big crowd that it was almost shut down by police.

In other news, Capaldi was recently revealed to feature on the “mystery vinyl” with pitched-down vocals, with the official release set to arrive in record stores on Record Store Day.

Since making his comeback, Lewis Capaldi has made a surprise appearance at a charity event alongside Matty Healymade a cameo in Taylor Swift’s ‘Opalite’ music video, and hinted at new music on the way.

As well as the upcoming shows at BST Hyde Park and Roundhay Festival, Capaldi will be headlining two huge ‘In The Park’ summer 2026 shows in Liverpool and Newcastle, as well as a set at Sziget Festival.
