It is safe to say that those waiting for The Elder Scrolls VI are quite unhappy with Bethesda at the moment. Not only has it been eight years since the next installment in The Elder Scrolls franchise was first announced, but earlier this year saw Bethesda head Todd Howard admit that The Elder Scrolls VI was revealed too soon.

Other than a brief teaser trailer which was shown during 2018's E3 conference, fans have received no other information or look at the highly anticipated sequel, and with Bethesda not shedding any light on a potential release window, the arrival of The Elder Scrolls VI could take us as far as 2030 at the earliest.

Now, in recent days, things have gone from bad to worse as a recent post on the Xbox Wire website could possibly hint at The Elder Scrolls VI being unplayable for millions upon its eventual launch.

This comes after the website spoke more about upcoming Xbox exclusives. We have seen in recent months that Sony is leaning more into PlayStation exclusives, deciding that many of its upcoming titles will no longer receive PC ports. As such, upcoming releases such as Marvel's Wolverine and God of War: Laufey will be PlayStation 5 exclusives. Now, it seems as though Microsoft is following suit.

"As part of our focus on the return of Xbox, we also announced that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusives," the Xbox Wire post reads. "These are not timed exclusives. Games already announced for multiplatform releases will stick to that plan – we’re committed to investing in and growing Xbox both on console and beyond."

Although the post did not reference The Elder Scrolls VI specifically, it could spell bad news for fans. If upcoming Xbox exclusives are set to be stuck on one platform, does this mean that the same can be said for the next The Elder Scrolls title? If so, only those with an Xbox Series X/S will be able to play, and that is only if TES VI launches before the next-generation Xbox console is released.

Of course, whether The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox exclusive or not has not been revealed, and is just another question that fans have for Bethesda. After all, the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved will be the first Halo title to also be available on PlayStation, so anything is indeed possible when it comes to some of our most anticipated releases.

For now, we can only hope that Bethesda is waiting in the wings with that long-awaited release date for The Elder Scrolls VI. Then, we can pass the exclusivity bridge when we come to it.
