Marvel has had a big year already in 2026 thanks to new releases like Wonder Man and Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but the projects most fans are waiting for are the ones coming to the big screen. For the first time in five years, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man returns to the big screen for a new web-swinging adventure in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In classic MCU fashion, the film is shaping up to be a massive team-up film, also, with stars such as Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal confirmed to star as Bruce Banner and Frank Castle. Marvel has another stealthy sleeper hit TV show coming in Vision Quest, which will see Paul Bettany star as Vision for the first time since WandaVision. The big cash-cow for Marvel isn’t releasing until December, though.

On December 18, Marvel is getting back in the business of event films with Avengers: Doomsday. The film was originally scheduled to be released in May, but it was delayed back to December — along with its counterpart, Secret Wars — to give the post-production team more time to polish the final product. Avengers: Doomsday is also opening on the same day as Dune: Part Three, and with both projected to be among the biggest blockbusters of the year, movie fans are in for as big of a weekend at the movies since Barbenheimer, possibly even bigger. Very little is known about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday at this time, but Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU return as Doctor Doom, not Iron Man, is enough to generate plenty of interest. Other long-time Marvel stars like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth will also have key roles in the film.

Based on your answers, the Marvel hero who matches your spirit, values, and instincts has been revealed.

You carry the weight of the world on shoulders that are younger than they should have to be — funny, loyal, and endlessly self-sacrificing.

You fight in the shadows between law and chaos, guided by a fierce moral compass that refuses to let the guilty walk free.

Brilliant, driven, and occasionally insufferable — but always the person who solves the unsolvable problem.

You've been through fire that would break most people — and it did change you, completely. What's left is unyielding, relentless, and operating by a code forged in grief.

Powerful, proud, and on a lifelong journey to become worthy of the legend you carry.

You believe in something bigger than yourself — and you fight for it even when the world has moved on and nobody else will.

If Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars follow a similar trajectory as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, it’s likely that Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.) will emerge victorious from the first film, leaving our heroes in limbo until Secret Wars arrives in December 2027. This formula worked well for Marvel the last time it had back-to-back Avengers movies to pump out, and considering the next duo are also being directed by the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, it would certainly make sense. The first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is expected to be released sometime this summer.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Avengers: Doomsday, which is coming to theaters everywhere late this year on December 18.
