Perhaps the most impressive thing about Batman: Arkham Knight is that after 11 years, it's still an absolutely stunning game. Rocksteady were absolutely cooking with Unreal Engine 3 (yes, it was Unreal Engine 3, I had to triple check). This is Gotham City like we've never seen it before, combining moody lighting and incredible weather effects. I could sit and watch the rain trickle down Batman's cape for hours. But, you know, not in a weird way.

While fans currently have no real idea if or when we'll get a new Batman: Arkham game from Rocksteady, the 11th anniversary of Arkham Knight has left fans with one very important question: why on Earth have we not gotten a 60fps upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles yet?

It's certainly not been uncommon practice for developers and publishers to launch 60fps updates for last-gen games on current-gen-hardware. A bunch of Assassin's Creed and Far Cry games have been upgraded, for instance. PlayStation has also released 60fps patches for games like God of War and Days Gone, while Borderlands 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 have also received similar treatment.

"Still waiting for 60 FPS Update," writes fan Rock Rider on X. Another fan agreed: "That 60 FPS update is a MUST, I’d definitely do a 6th Playthrough."

"This game would look better than some PS5 games if we got an actual 4k 60fps update," one fan added.

It's worth noting that 60fps is possible, but only if you play on a decent enough PC. Console players remain locked out of the delights of a 60fps battle for Batman's soul.

"It’s not 60fps on console," one fan lamented on Reddit. "I freaking wish it was. If there is one thing that people should take a page out of Ubisoft’s book, it’s that they go back and upgrade their old games. It’s just lazy that WB won’t do it for Batman."

While I'm not sure "lazy" is entirely fair, players who do want 60fps Gotham fun can - and should - go check out Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. It's a fantastic blend of Arkham and LEGO, and while I'd argue it doesn't really reach the heights of the Rocksteady trilogy, it's an absolutely wonderful game Batman fans shouldn't miss.
