PlayStation has just revealed a new piece of hardware that you may not be able to get your hands on. The console is now approaching its sixth birthday, and is still going strong with new releases, including specialized controllers and branded monitors, headphones, and speakers.

While we wait on any sort of rumors about the next generation of PlayStation consoles, PlayStation continues to pump out new, optional hardware and peripherals for the PS5. This hardware can be very desirable for collectors, but also difficult to pick up, especially if it's

This is the PS5's new Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense controller, which comes out as a Japan exclusive on August 6 (with pre-orders to begin June 30) (spotted by GameRant). It's a limited-edition product, which means it won't even be available for particularly long, no matter what region you're buying in.

Of course, the most noticeable thing about this controller is its two-tone blue color scheme, which is somewhat reminiscent of the brightly-colored, two-tone Hyperpop line Sony previously put out for DualSense controllers. Take a closer look, and you'll notice some additional details: the classic PlayStation button icons are embossed onto the touchpad, and the word "PlayStation" is printed in Katakana on the rear plate.

Naturally, as a celebration of the PlayStation's legacy, this controller comes at a premium price, with the suggested retail being ¥12,480 — roughly $77.16 US. Other than its fancy look, though, it's a perfectly normal DualSense controller, with the usual extra-sensitive haptic feedback, adaptive controllers, gyroscopic controls, and all the other bells and whistles.

This is actually a new edition of Sony's previous Icon Blue controller, which was briefly available as a Walmart exclusive in the US, Mexico, Canada, and Chile beginning in October 2025. These are still available from some second-hand retailers, but you may have to pay a premium; this special-edition DualSense regularly retails in the ballpark of $90, despite coming out at an MSRP of $85.

The jury's still out on whether the Japanese version will use the upgraded battery life tech that was recently introduced to newer DualSense models. That alone would make it worth the price, especially if you didn't get your hands on the Icon Blue edition when it was available stateside.

But, if you missed out on the Icon Blue Dualsense the first time it came around, it may be frustrating to see it return as a Japan-only exclusive. Here's hoping for a wider release for some of PlayStation's coolest hardware in recent memory.
