A good year for Final Fantasy fans is about to get even better, as a brand-new board game is coming in late 2026. This news comes on the heels of a few other great moments for the franchise, and continues to build on the legacy of the nostalgic, long-running series.

Earlier this month, the third and final game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy finally received a name (Final Fantasy 7 Revelation) and a release window (spring 2027). In addition to this, an HD-2D remake of the mobile-only Brave Exvius was announced, titled Final Fantasy Resonance.

But these two games aren't the only Final Fantasy games for players to eagerly await. Board game aficionados might also be aware that FF 7-themed board game was announced this year. Scheduled to release in January 2027, Ascend Shinra Tower will feature the beloved Final Fantasy 7 characters on their journey up through a balance-based tower game. Now, as we get closer to Q3 of 2026, one more board game is about to make its appearance.

The newest FF board game project is simply called Final Fantasy: The Board Game. The game is inspired by the first three games of the series, taking it back to its origins. It fully embraces the nostalgic factor, down to the NES-cartiredge-like box and Yoshitaka Amano's original FF 1 artwork featured front and center.

Announced on License Global, the game will be made by toy and game company KessCo, which is collaborating with Square Enix as part of a licensing partnership. It will take one to four players through the stories and adventures of Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 3.

The game also comes with a set of collectible dice inspired by the Pixel Remaster series of nostalgic remakes from Square Enix. These dice will be both for use and for display, featuring sculpted figures of the characters in their pixel glory.

Final Fantasy: The Board Game is designed by veteran board game designer Anthony Thorp. Thorp is backed by a catalog of franchise tie-in board games for popular titles like One Piece, Spy x Family, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Like the Pixel Remasters it's inspired by, this board game plans to spawn a series to cover the other titles. According to License Global, Final Fantasy: The Board Game is the first in a multi-game deal in collaboration between KessCo and Square Enix.

The Final Fantasy game is scheduled for release sometime in Q3 2026, which begins in July. Fans of both the FF series and board games should keep an eye out for more news.
