Netflix is finally getting into the Hot Ones business.
The streamer has ordered Hot Ones: Extra Heat, a spinoff of Sean Evans’ spicy chicken talkshow – nearly two years after talks emerged with the company.
It marks the latest spinoff for the success digital brand, which has previously aired Hot Ones: The Game Show on TruTV. Other spinoffs include Hot Ones Versus and Hot Ones Wing Pong.
Evans will host the series, which follows the format of the originals but takes it outside of the studio and onto location. Each episode will be 30 minutes and will see Evans interview celebrities at settings “inspired by major tentpole moments on Netflix” such as live sporting events and film and series launches.
While the series was already somewhat promotional – interviewing talent with big movies and series about to launch – this takes it up a step. The series will launch after Netflix’s live stream of the Home Run Derby on July 13 with Will Ferrell, Fortune Feimster and Jimmy Tatro promoting their new series The Hawk.
Evans’ existing show will continue on YouTube.
He will exec produce alongside Chris Schonberger, Sarah Honda, Aaron Cooke and K.P. Anderson, who serves as showrunner. Digital Cinema Collective serves as the production company.
“As a student of the late-night genre, I’m obsessed with the art of the interview and believe that these conversations warrant a level of scale and spectacle that sometimes can’t be contained by a studio. It’s exciting to partner with Netflix to continue to break new ground with the format, while keeping the core of what fans love about Hot Ones firmly intact,” Evans said.
