Godzilla fans, mark your calendars for July 1, 2026, because two big movies in the franchise are arriving on Netflix that day. When it comes to the original Godzilla movies, the Toho ones, not the Legendary Pictures ones, the best place to go for the most complete library has been HBO Max.

The films are spread around other streamers, though, and it can be a bit of a game to figure out where to watch Mothra vs Godzilla, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, and the other standouts in the franchise. On July 1, though, fans can catch one of the best movies in the series on Netflix.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidora: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is coming to Netflix the first of July, a boon for fans of Godzilla looking for a kaiju movie they haven't seen before (via WhatsOnNetflix). The Rebirth of Mothra trilogy will also drop on the streamer the same day. It's a big month for Godzilla lovers.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidora is a 2001 entry in the franchise, directed by Shusuke Kaneko, the director behind the acclaimed Gamera trilogy. The film is a direct sequel to the 1954 Godzilla and has continuity with the 1998 American Godzilla movie, ignoring the events of every other title in the franchise, not that continuity has ever been ultra-important in the series, with reboots being frequent entries.

Set in the current day, decades after Godzilla was killed in the original film, strange reports begin to come out of the Pacific, and it soon becomes clear that Godzilla has returned. To combat the destructive force, Japan's legendary Guardian Monsters: Baragon, King Ghidora, and Mothra awaken to defend Japan.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidora: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack doesn't just have an incredible name, it's one of the best movies in the franchise, and one of the most underrated too. Godzilla ping-pongs between being a villain, an anti-hero, and a straight-up protagonist in the Godzilla movies, and in this one, he's the clear villain.

Kaiju Movies Coming To Netflix On July 1

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

While that's rare, it's not unheard of. What is unheard of is how Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidora present King Ghidora as the hero of the film. Ever since his introduction, King Ghidora has been one of the biggest and greatest villains of the series. In this film, he's presented as the legendary Japanese God of the Sky.

It's a great twist on the usual format, and Ghidora and Mothra make for a powerful and exciting duo. The film is a return to the series' classic roots, with a mix of thrilling battles and smart, black comedy. It's one of the most ambitious Godzilla films in terms of the visual effects, themes, and tone, and it manages to capture what made the earlier Godzilla films great while still presenting original ideas.

The Rebirth of Mothra trilogy will also be dropping on Netflix on July 1st. This trilogy of Mothra movies began with Rebirth of Mothra in 1996, was followed up by Rebirth of Mothra II in 1997, and finally ended with Rebirth of Mothra III in 1998. Godzilla is not featured in any of these movies, but several notable monsters from the universe are included, like King Ghidorah and Dagahra.

Between three Rebirth of Mothra movies and Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidora: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, kaiju and Godzilla fans will have plenty to watch in July. It could even be a sign of more Toho kaiju films to come.
