After weeks of teasing fans with pieces of a silhouette poster, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has finally pulled back the curtain. Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red have revealed the anime's first full key visual, introducing the main female lead of a new crew of edgerunners while confirming that the series will return in Fall 2026. It marks the long-awaited return to Night City nearly four years after the first season became one of Netflix's biggest anime hits.

After all, continuing David Martinez's story was never really an option. Season 1 told a complete story from beginning to end, and its heartbreaking finale was a huge part of why the anime resonated with so many viewers. Bringing those characters back just for another adventure would have taken away from what made that ending so memorable.

Instead, Studio Trigger is doing exactly what Cyberpunk should be doing. Night City has always been filled with stories waiting to be told, and this new team gives the anime a chance to explore another corner of that world without undoing everything that came before. Judging by the first key visual alone, Season 2 looks ready to prove that Edgerunners was never just David's story.

Arriving this Fall 2026, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 leaves David and Lucy behind and introduces a completely new crew trying to survive in Night City. Leading the group is Taliya Yang, one of the biggest reveals from the newly released key visual. Although she grew up in the comfort of the city's corporate towers, her life eventually took a sharp turn after crossing paths with the Maelstrom gang. Now, she has fully embraced their brutal lifestyle and obsession with heavy chrome.

Taliya isn't surviving the neon streets alone, though. Joining her on the journey are a flawed mix of outcasts, starting with Weak Kingsley, who was once a respected elite mercenary known simply as "King," but those days are long behind him as he struggles to live up to his old reputation. Then there is D, a Snake Nation netrunner whose search for the people responsible for wiping out his clan has become his driving force. Each member brings a very different past into the team, giving the new season a cast that already feels far removed from David's crew.

The final member, Roman Carax, may be the most unusual of the group. In a world where braindances have replaced traditional films, Roman is a young cinephile obsessed with documenting real, unfiltered stories. The writers have even described him as a love letter to filmmaking, created alongside designer Kai Ikarashi. Together, the four characters bring very different backgrounds into Night City, setting the stage for a story that looks nothing like David Martinez's.

The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners set a very high bar for video game adaptations. Following David and Lucy's heartbreaking ending was never going to be easy, but the excitement surrounding the new season shows that fans are more than ready to return to the horrors of Night City. The franchise has also stayed in the spotlight during the wait, with collaborations like Cyberpunk's crossover with Wuthering Waves keeping the series fresh in fans' minds.

Most anime series don't have endings that live up to the hype, but luckily, there are a handful of endings that are nothing short of perfect.

Now, the wait is almost over. With Anime Expo taking place this week, a new teaser trailer is set to release on June 29, giving fans their first proper look at Taliya, Weak, D, and Roman in motion. If Studio Trigger can deliver the same animation and emotional storytelling that made the first season so memorable, Season 2 has every chance of becoming another standout entry in the Cyberpunk universe with its Fall 2026 debut.
