The Fallout franchise has been in a bit of a limbo period ever since the second season of the official Fallout TV show finished airing, with fans eagerly awaiting more updates about the potential development of Fallout 5, or the surprise release of a remake for one of the older entries in the series. While we unfortunately didn't get any new game announcements over the last week, Bethesda did have one surprise offering for fans to enjoy.

Having previously announced as a limited-time offer for June, you'll only have 24 hours left at the time of writing this article to take advantage of Fallout's latest free download offering, which is scheduled to end on June 15.

Originally announced on the official Fallout X account starting on June 8, Bethesda has been offering completely free access to Fallout 76 as a free trial, which will allow you to carry your progress over into the full game if you decide to buy it afterward, play it through Xbox Game Pass, or gain free access through an additional free trial.

Although Fallout 76 is far from the most popular entry in the franchise due to its disappointing launch state, the multiplayer RPG shooter has come a long way since release, with countless updates worth of content to enjoy and even more free content to come through Fallout 76's 2026 roadmap.

Given that Fallout 76 reportedly takes roughly 116 hours to complete all the main story and additional side content that the experience has to offer, according to HowLongToBeat, the 24-hour window won't be nearly enough to make a dent in the experience, but the trial still offers plenty of time to dip your toes in and see if the long-running FPS-style MMORPG is up your alley or not.

Although it's completely fair to be tired of hearing about Fallout 76 when you're eagerly awaiting updates for a new playable entry in the series, given that the painfully long wait for Fallout 5 could last up to, or over an entire decade at this point, if Bethesda's development of The Elder Scrolls 6 is anything to go by, Fallout 76 is likely the best we'll have for quite a while.

Even if you've already tried Fallout 76 years prior, or were put off by the bad publicity surrounding its release at first, the massive improvements with new quest lines, voiced NPCs, and even unique mechanics like playing as a ghoul for the first time in the history of the franchise, make Fallout 76 well worth giving a shot out all these years later, especially with at no extra cost during this limited window.
