Rumor has it a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 port could be coming to the Switch 2 later this year, and fans aren't sure what to make of it. This love letter to classic RPGs was released last year to near-universal critical acclaim, briefly becoming the highest-rated game of all time on Metacritic and winning Game of the Year at 2025's Game Awards.

Now, according to leaker NateTheHate (as reported by My Nintendo News), Expedition 33 could be the latest in a long line of third-party games to get ported to Nintendo's latest handheld. While some fans are delighted at what could be the best handheld version of the game yet, others have doubts about the Switch 2's ability to run Clair Obscur.

In a thread on X (formerly Twitter) by @Stealth40k, fans sounded off about the potential of a Switch 2 port for Expedition 33. Some were unflinchingly positive: "This is a slam dunk and hopefully will happen," said Geek Your Heart Out, while AlmostOP resolved to buy a Switch 2 just to play Clair Obscur on it.

"Please let this happen! I've been wanting to play this game but have been holding out for a possible Switch 2 version. Just don't release it in September," said Tsukino Azura, referencing the plethora of games now set to come out in September, likely in order to avoid GTA 6's highly anticipated release.

But others were a little more doubtful. Many seem to believe that the higher hardware demands of Expedition 33 would cause it to run at a paltry 15 frames per second (FPS) on the Switch 2. "Can Switch 2 handle this game?" asked @Blackcarnage6.

Or, as PIX put it, "30 FPS parrying is gonna be hard." @yusufied called attention to Expedition 33's performance on the Steam Deck, claiming it "left much to be desired," especially when it came to the fight against the Act Two final boss. These commenters have a point: Expedition 33 is an Unreal Engine 5 game with detailed environments and difficult combat timing. If it doesn't run well, it's functionally unplayable, which would be bad news for a Switch 2 port.

However, it's worth looking at the facts here. Comparing the system requirements for E33 and Cyberpunk 2077 — which has already been ported to the Switch 2 — on Steam, the two games have very similar minimum recommended specs.

Cyberpunk actually requires more RAM, while Clair Obscur asks for a higher-end CPU. The recommended CPU clocks just a bit higher than the Switch 2's processor, but it's probably nothing the handheld can't handle with maybe a few graphical adjustments. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's future on the Switch 2 may remain uncertain, but, both logistically and performance-wise, it doesn't seem to be out of reach for the console.
