Pokémon Scarlet and Violet didn't get off to the best start, and, sadly, despite featuring some rather excellent moments, it never did quite manage to substantially improve its technical state, even with a Switch 2 upgrade. Nevertheless, it's hard to deny that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet didn't, at times, sparkle as bright as some of Pokémon's best, and absolutely had and continue to have a loyal following of fans who will tune in for every major event.

Sadly, it would seem that, after nearly four years, the end of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may very well be upon us. This isn't merely the game concluding a beloved feature or removing a temporary Tera Raid battle. Like the many Pokémon games that died before it, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet could truly be over very soon. Fortunately, it would appear that, in its final moments, this divisive and at times brilliant game is going out with a bang.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's ongoing Tera Raid event, which features every fully evolved starter Pokémon in the Pokédex, appears to be the game's last. The event, which has been going since January 8, 2026, is set to last 30 weeks, which would imply it'll end around August 6, 2026. Each week, a different fully evolved starter Pokémon has been made available as a Tera Raid battle, something that, while having occurred in previous events, is still a novel occasion, especially for those who missed out the first time around.

Pokémon in Tera Raid battles can only be caught once, and they only stick around for as long as the event lasts. Once it's over, they're gone, seemingly just like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's support. So, for many of these starter Pokémon, this could be the very last time they're made available in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. That's a rather somber thought, especially for those who are just now getting into the game, or those who don't have the time to check in every week.

Once this event is over, it could be the end of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. To be clear, neither Game Freak nor The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's near four-year support is over, but it certainly seems like that's the case. Gen 9 has enjoyed a wealth of incredible updates week after week, but it has to stop eventually, and it would seem that August could be it.

The Pokémon Company hasn't announced any other events in Scarlet and Violet, and the events page on the game's official website hasn't been updated since January 8. Pokémon Winds and Waves is set to release in 2027, and Pokopia is the current Pokémon darling that's enjoying frequent updates and events. There really isn't a need to continue supporting Pokémon Scarlet and Violet any further, even if fans would want Game Freak to.

Naturally, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet could get a series of events post the current crop of Tera Raid battles. It is certainly possible, even despite the fact that it has already enjoyed close to four years of constant updates. However, for those still grinding away, intending on truly catching them all, it may be worth getting ready for the end, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet could currently be experiencing it's very last major event.
