Final Fantasy 15 is a game that has benefited rather greatly from the passage of time. Despite releasing all the way back in 2016, it has aged rather gracefully, its visuals absolutely managing to hold up after all this time, and its story, once the bane of anyone who played FF15's existence, is now better told thanks to the major update and release of accompanying media. One can play Final Fantasy XV now, and if they watch the anime, movie, play every DLC in the right order, and read the novel, they will be able to have a good time.

It sounds like a lot, but those willing to put in the effort will attest to its greatness, even if some of Final Fantasy 15's potential remains untapped. Fortunately, it appears as if Final Fantasy 15 may be making an official return to modern hardware nearly a decade after it was first released. Rather unfortunately, not everyone is as happy as those who've managed to mine FFXV for all its worth and come to truly understand and love it, as gamers are, perhaps unsurprisingly, divided.

During the recent Square Enix annual shareholders' meeting, it was asked about porting Final Fantasy 15 to the Nintendo Switch. Square Enix explained (as shared onX by Cammy Dalamud) that “there are hardware constraints, but from a specification standpoint, it is not completely impossible, so it is under consideration.” Of course, this isn't a confirmation that Final Fantasy 15, one of the few games in the series not currently available on the Nintendo Switch (outside its strange demake), will be ported to Nintendo's hybrid console

However, it does rather heavily imply that Square Enix is actively testing to see whether it can and, indeed, if it would be worth it. Frankly, having a game as huge and impressive as FFXV on the Nintendo Switch would be somewhat miraculous, especially considering that Final Fantasy 15 is one of the most important Final Fantasy games of all time. Sadly, it doesn't appear that everyone feels the same way, as, in response to an X post about the possibility of it being ported to Switch, several fans began arguing over whether it deserves a second chance.

Some fans have chimed in claiming that Square Enix is focusing on the wrong game and that other Final Fantasy titles deserve remakes instead, with user Nico Robin Lover of Mayhem posting, "seriously Square Stop ignoring FF8-9 they need a remake like FF7." Others are a tad skeptical of Square Enix's claim that there may be "hardware constraints" with getting Final Fantasy XV on the Switch, with user Literal Cringe stating, "what hardware constraints? We're talking about a 2015 PS4 game."

However, it seems unlikely that the hardware constraints are related to FFXV itself, but more with the infamously tricky Luminous Engine, something that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth doesn't use. Regardless, while the sentiment around FF15 coming to Switch may be a tad negative, it can ultimately only be for the best. Its another game from the series on the console and a fun way to pass the time while waiting for the upcoming Final Fantasy 17. At the very least, the Switch version of Final Fantasy 15 will give newcomers the chance to see what all the fuss is about.
