He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction is finally set for release soon, coming before the end of summer 2026. The classic franchise is having a big resurgence as He-Man and company just recently returned in the summer blockbuster Masters of the Universe movie adaptation.

Announced in August last year, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction was initially slated for release in April, but was delayed. The retro-styled co-op beat-'em-up doesn't yet have a new, exact release date, but publisher Limited Run Games has confirmed that it will release in summer 2026. In development at Bitmap Bureau, which specializes in nostalgic modern retro games, the game sees players stopping longtime franchise villain Skeletor after he uncovers the exceptionally powerful Dragon Pearl of Destruction.

Like the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men, or even The Simpsons arcade cabinets, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction is a side-scrolling brawler where players take on the role of the titular character or his iconic companions, including Man-At-Arms, Teela, and She-Ra. The game features two-player local co-op (online multiplayer doesn't appear to be supported, though Remote Play is listed on Steam), and the ability to mount He-Man's loyal companion, Battle Cat.

He-Man's brand-new adventure includes 12 distinct stages to battle Skeletor's minions across. While He-Man's skull-faced nemesis is the primary antagonist, Dragon Pearl of Destruction promises a cabal of "deep-cut villains." Teases of the full villain lineup include "Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, and Trap Jaw, along with deep-lore appearances like the dark sorceress Shokoti and the Shadow Beasts."

Pre-orders for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction are not yet live, but the game can be added to a Steam wishlist. It also curiously does not have a physical edition announced, even though publisher Limited Run Games is primarily known for producing physical copies of games that would otherwise be exclusively digital. With Limited Run Games' involvement, though, it's likely only a matter of time until a physical edition is announced, likely alongside a more specific release date.

A release date announcement for Dragon Pearl of Destruction should conceivably be coming soon. We're in the midst of summer now, and the release window implies the game will come out before the end of September, roughly three months from now. While a retro beat-'em-up is comparatively unambitious, Bitmap Bureau's game is the biggest Masters of the Universe video game yet. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction will be here soon, hot on the heels of the new movie, and is a major landmark for the long-running franchise.
