Following her breakout performance in Mortal Kombat II, one of the sequel’s stars is turning her attention to Netflix’s remake of a 2000s classic.

Last month, Adeline Rudolph starred in Mortal Kombat II as Kitana, one of the video game movie’s new characters. Although the sequel earned mixed critical reception and has made less money than its 2021 predecessor, that’s not stopping the actor from boarding more high-profile projects. Next on the horizon for her is a new take on a beloved romantic comedy.

Deadline reports that Rudolph has joined the cast of Netflix’s version of 13 Going on 30. Like the original movie from 2004, this remake will follow a 13-year-old girl who magically wakes up as her 30-year-old self in the present day. Rudolph joins previously announced cast members Emily Bader and Logan Lerman, though none of their roles have been identified yet.

The original movie starred Jennifer Garner as the adult self of Christa B. Allen’s Jenna Rink, who wished in 1987 that she could be "thirty and flirty and thriving.” The 13 Going on 30 cast also included Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer, and Andy Serkis, among others. Gary Winick directed the feature, and Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith wrote the script. Along with being critically well-received, 13 Going on 30 made $96 million worldwide.

It hasn’t been clarified yet if Netflix’s 13 Going on 30 will be a straightforward remake unconnected to the original beyond the shared premise, or if the new protagonist, played by Bader, lives in the same universe as Jenna. Garner is attached to the project as an executive producer, but there’s been no mention of her appearing onscreen. The original movie followed three years after Garner rose to prominence by playing Sydney Bristow in the ABC series Alias.

Brett Haley, who directed fellow Netflix feature People We Meet on Vacation, is helming the new 13 Going on 30. Mark, Mary, & Some Other People’s Hannah Marks wrote the script, and Flora Greeson, who’s working on the upcoming The Princess Diaries 3, handled revisions. The remake is expected to begin filming in Los Angeles later in June.

This isn’t the first time that the popular romantic comedy has been revisited. A 13 Going on 30 stage musical premiered at the Manchester Opera House in September 2025, and it will hold its North American premiere in Toronto this November. Garner also executive produced the musical.

Prior to Mortal Kombat II, Rudolph was arguably best known for playing Agatha in the Netflix series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which ran for two seasons from October 2018 to December 2020. She also starred in the streamer’s short-lived Resident Evil TV show and appeared in five episodes of Riverdale. Film-wise, her credits include Hellboy: The Crooked Man and Do Not Enter.

Along with 13 Going on 30, Rudolph will star opposite Arden Cho, Jeon Somi, John Harlan Kim, and May Hong in the psychological thriller Perfect Girl. She's also among the series regulars in the Reacher spinoff Neagley.
