However, it is considered an official, canonical extension of the TV show's established timeline. It not only expands the series' existing lore and universe but also paves the way for more future stories in the franchise before Persepolis Rising's events.
Set a few years after season 6's finale, the comics' story picks up after the Free Navy Conflict is over, and Earth is dealing with mass starvation. Mars, too, is in no better state as its residents set out to colonize worlds beyond the Ring Gates. Beyond these story beats, The Expanse: Dragon Tooth also addresses the mysteries surrounding Admiral Duarte's "Stange Dogs" faction and even hints at how they are building a protomolecule-fueled military power.
The comic book series could have easily been dismissed as a filler extension that tries too hard to leverage The Expanse franchise's success. Surprisingly, though, it does a decent job of answering the many questions the series' season 6 leaves viewers with. While the Prime Video series' future remains uncertain, the comic book can effectively fill the void for many who miss the show.
The Expanse: Dragon Tooth attempts to bridge some of the gap between The Expanse season 6's ending and the story that lies beyond the three-decade jump. However, it only seems to scratch the surface of all the potential stories that can be accommodated in the gap. In a universe as volatile as the one featured in The Expanse, a lot can happen over 30 long years.
From stories focusing on the gradual abandonment of Mars to more character-driven stories surrounding characters like Clarissa who have limited time to live, potential follow-ups and spin-offs after The Expanse season 6 have endless narratives to explore.
Despite the franchise's undying potential, however, it seems unlikely that it will be revived anytime soon. Its creators are currently involved with Prime Video's upcoming adaptation of The Captive's War book series, which has also been written by The Expanse's original authors. Hopefully, The Captive's War's success will prompt Prime Video to also give The Expanse another revival after season 6.
