Vegeta has become the strongest and most likely candidate to inherit the title of God of Destruction after Beerus, should he ever step down from his role. Ever since he started training with Whis on Beerus’ world in Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta has gained a deeper understanding of divine power and mastered new techniques like Ultra Ego, which allows him to harness the power of destruction, including Hakai.

However, becoming a God of Destruction is about more than reaching a certain level of strength or attaining divine power. To become the God of Destruction, one would more than likely have to fully embrace the title and responsibilities that come with wielding such immense power and status. For Vegeta, this becomes a major obstacle, making his ascension to godhood unlikely despite appearing to be the natural choice.

Vegeta has arguably become the most qualified character in Dragon Ball to inherit the role of God of Destruction from Beerus. After years of training and mastering a specialized technique learned directly from Beerus, Vegeta has gained a unique understanding of divine power. With his Ultra Ego transformation, he has both the ability to wield godlike destructive energy and the mindset to embrace the thrill of battle and abandon his morality.

Paired with his relationship to Beerus, many might be quick to see him as the only suitable candidate for the position. He’s already shown a strong ability to adapt to the expectations of a God of Destruction by embracing the nature of Ultra Ego, and he fully understands that destruction isn’t inherently evil.

Dragon Ball is famous for its wild power levels, and that leads to the series' strongest characters being absolute nightmares on the battlefield.

However, becoming a God of Destruction requires more than just the ability to fight at a divine level and use destructive energy. The series made it clear that the God of Destruction plays an important role in universal balance, maintaining cycles of creation and destruction. With that in mind, becoming a true god would demand a warrior who can prioritize that balance across the universe and maintain neutrality.

This is where Vegeta’s potential as the next God of Destruction becomes complicated. While he once embodied a ruthless mentality, he has since developed into one of Dragon Ball’s most complex and well-rounded characters. The Vegeta viewers are now familiar with would never abandon his family and life on Earth to serve as a full-time God of Destruction, nor would he choose neutrality if they are ever in harm’s way, but there is another Saiyan who is better positioned to become Beerus’ true successor.

Unlike Vegeta, Broly is a warrior who has the potential to grow into the role of a God of Destruction without having to separate himself from the person he’s become through years of evolution. His power is unlike anything ever seen from another Saiyan, demonstrating the ability to rapidly adapt and improve during the heat of battle, even against those who are far beyond him in experience.

More importantly, Broly doesn’t have the same responsibilities that make Vegeta’s potential future as a God of Destruction uncertain. His life has never been defined by a legacy or desire to reclaim what was lost. Instead, he spent most of his life training, surviving, and searching for connection after years of isolation from civilization. In many ways, Broly is a blank slate, and that is exactly what makes him a far more flexible and likely candidate for Beerus’ position.

This, paired with his overwhelming potential and adaptability, makes Broly a very strong candidate for becoming the next God of Destruction.

While Broly has since formed new relationships with Cheelai and Lemo, the two of them make the possibility of becoming Beerus’ successor more realistic rather than complicated like Vegeta’s family. After the three developed a close bond in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the trio was found together on Beerus’ Planet in Super Hero, showing that there is a high possibility that they don’t have strong ties to a specific planet like Goku and Vegeta do. Instead, Cheelai and Lemo have shown that they are adaptable and can continue their lives anywhere.

This shows that Broly wouldn’t necessarily have to abandon the people closest to him in order to accept the role, as they would more than likely adapt to life on a new world. This, paired with his overwhelming potential and adaptability, makes Broly a very strong candidate for becoming the next God of Destruction. While Vegeta is embracing divine power, his mortal attachments being tied to Earth make him less likely to become the ideal successor to Beerus, while Broly stands out as a character who is best positioned to inherit the role in Dragon Ball.
