The Lord of the Rings is, and perhaps always will be, the biggest individual property in all of fantasy, and that makes it a very tempting foundation for any and all adaptations that folks feel like making. We know there is a new open world RPG on the way from Kingdom Come developer Warhorse Studios, and that could be one of the best video game adaptations we've had to date.

At the same time, relatively recent releases like Return to Moria have shown the potential of the series in other genres, and if you're a video gamer and LotR fan, the future really does look bright. That said, there is another gaming adaptation that's been around for a little while, but the latest expansion could be the perfect time for new players to get involved.

Those of you have been fans of the franchise for a while, will likely have heard of The One Ring, the officially licensed Lord of the Rings TTRPG that's almost universally beloved by those who have played it so far. The game is developed by Free League Publishing, and the company has just confirmed the release of the latest expansion for the game on their website.

Hobbit Tales is a supplement for The One Ring that puts the little folk of the Shire front and center, not only offering new adventures for players to enjoy, but also a great way for new players to get involved for the first time. In confirming the product, Free League Publishing shared the following insight:

"Explore the Shire with a thorough description of its four farthings and five exciting ready-to-play adventures, fully playable also by taking on the roles of some Hobbits whose descendants will go on to do extraordinary things, such as Primula and Rory Brandybuck, Paladin Took, and Bilbo Baggins himself!"

It's worth noting that some of the material contained in the expansion set has previously been published in the first starter set for the second edition of the game, so it may not be worth getting if you already have that.

The set retails currently for $41.61/£35.04/€39.42, so it isn't exactly cheap, but you do get hours of potential fun out of it, so when you think about it like that it isn't too bad really.

With so much going on around the beloved fantasy series, it really is about as good a time to be a fan as ever, with a ton of exciting Lord of the Rings projects coming down the pipeline. Let's just hope they manage to live up to the immense legacy it has forged so far among fans and casual viewers.

The Lord of the Rings is a multimedia franchise consisting of several movies and a TV show released by Amazon titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The franchise is based on J.R.R. Tolkien's book series that began in 1954 with The Fellowship of the Ring. The Lord of the Rings saw mainstream popularity with Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.
