It's never a cheap time to be a Pokémon fan, let's be real. And with this year being the official 30th anniversary, there's so much cool merchandise out that we're having to remortgage our home in Pallet Town just to scratch the surcafe. Gotta buy 'em all, right? LEGO is one of the biggest culprits in bankrupting us with collectibles, and wouldn't you know it, there's more.
LEGO is returning to Hoenn with a new Rayquaza set, which is expected to launch on August 1, 2026. The kit includes 1,083 pieces and features the legendary Pokémon Rayquaza perched above the Sky Pillar, with clouds built into the display to show just how high above Hoenn he likes to hang out. Don't look down, that's all we'll say. The set also includes a Zinnia minifigure, so one of the region's most popular characters will pop along for the trip.
The good news for LEGO fans is that the Rayquaza set isn't going to be using LEGO’s newer Smart Bricks. The choice to implement other sets with the newer bricks hasn't been overly well received, so this is probably better for traditionalists.
Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.
You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You're a systems thinker who can't help but notice the seams in things.
The wasteland doesn't reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That's you.
You'd survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.
Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.
The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn't have it any other way.
The Rayquaza set follows earlier Pokémon LEGO releases tied to Pokémon Day, including figures of the first big three, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. Those sets carried a massive $650 price tag, which made them tough for a lot of fans to justify even before scalpers got involved.
Across the summer this year, we're also expecting to see releases featuring Gengar, Cubone, another Charizard set with Jolteon, Garchomp with Umbreon, Mew, Bidoof, and more. So even if Rayquaza isn't the one you're after, there should be a set that tickles your fancy somewhere along the line. We're personally hoping to see Mimikyu riding on the back of a Lapras.
However, Rayquaza remains one of the most iconic Pokémon around (especially in its shiny form), having first been introduced as the cover feature for Pokémon Emerald, so bringing it into LEGO form feels like an obvious choice to make, especially during such a big anniversary year for the franchise.
The new LEGO Pokémon sets are expected to begin launching on August 1, 2026.
