Final Fantasy has no shortage of iconic protagonists from across the years, but Final Fantasy 10's Tidus has to be near the top of the pile. While he hasn't benefited from a media empire comparable to Cloud's constant returns in Final Fantasy 7-related media, plenty of fans are still happy to see Tidus in any appearance.

Now, Tidus will be leaving the world of Spira behind to debut in a contemporary modern setting, and he's getting a new look to match. Ahead of the release, Square Enix has offered a first look at Tidus's new style and his suite of in-game abilities.

Final Fantasy 10's Tidus will be making his debut in Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy on June 30, as showcased in a video on the official Square Enix YouTube channel. Tidus's new look translates his status as a blitzball icon to a real-world context, giving him a more typical jersey. The look trades out his asymmetrical shorts for a more standard oversized fit and finishes things off with standard athletic socks and sneakers.

Along with the modern re-design, the trailer also shows Tidus in a more traditional outfit in-game. While this outfit mostly resembles his original FF10 appearance, it retains a number of changes originally made for the first Dissidia: Final Fantasy game, like a dramatically upturned collar and ragged shorts.

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is a fighting game take on the series, focusing on teams of three characters competing to defeat arena bosses in modern-day Tokyo. As the fourth entry in the Dissidia spin-off series, Dissidia Duellum launched in March this year on mobile platforms. It's been subject to some critique for its free-to-play gacha approach, as plenty of fans would have preferred a new console or arcade game, but many of the core gameplay principles remain intact.

Naturally, Tidus will be taking his blitzball skills to the new battlefield, with the trailer highlighting abilities like Jecht Shot and Blitz Ace. Tidus is the second Final Fantasy 10 character to join Dissidia Duellum, taking his place in the game alongside FF10's Rikku. With most games in the franchise only boasting one character in Dissidia Duellum to date, this puts FF10 in line with FF7, which is represented by both Cloud and Sephiroth.

Tidus's character draw event in Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy will be held from June 30, 2026 (starting after maintenance) to July 28, 2026 at 12:59 JST.
