It is hard to believe that it has not yet been a decade since Red Dead Redemption 2 was released. Now considered a modern-day classic, the Rockstar hit launched in 2018 as the highly anticipated sequel (although technically serving as a prequel) to Red Dead Redemption and is now regarded as one of the greatest video game releases of all time.

As the third entry in the Red Dead franchise, Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place in the final years of the 19th century across the American frontier. Following outlaw and gunslinger Arthur Morgan, we join him as he deals with the declining years of the Wild West, constant threats from the government, and betrayal as the Van der Linde gang try to navigate a new world.

Following its launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 broke multiple records, managing to generate US$725 million in its opening weekend alone. Praised for its graphics, narrative, characters, soundtrack and level of detail, the latter of which is still used in comparison to this day, there is no denying that Rockstar had an instant winner under its belt.

However, if you have somehow missed out on Red Dead Redemption 2, either because you were unable to grab it at full price, or the sheer hype was enough to put you off, fear not as back in May, the hit Rockstar title was added to the PlayStation Plus library once again.

After being unavailable on the service since May 2024, Red Dead Redemption 2 finally returned, and to this day, it is still free to download. However, with no confirmation of when it will leave, you should treat every day as though it is the last and get downloading. As mentioned, both Red Dead Redemption 2 and its Red Dead Online component could leave the service for an extended time before you know it.

Available for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members from 19 May onwards, we can expect Red Dead Redemption 2 to be part of the service for six or twelve months as this is how long PS Plus contracts usually last before they have to be renewed. As such, you have plenty of time to download and complete Red Dead Redemption 2, with How Long To Beat suggesting that it takes 193 hours to fully complete the game, and 50+ hours for just the main story.

So, if you are on the search for a stunning, open-world RPG featuring a heartbreaking story, diverse characters, and fun gameplay, make sure to give Red Dead Redemption 2 a chance before it heads back to full price.
