As with the launch of many AAA single-player RPGs, there is a large percentage of fans who do not waste any time in asking for a potential multiplayer mode. Look, I get it. When it comes to exploring Cyberpunk 2077's epic setting of Night City, there is no denying that it would be fun causing chaos with friends. However, there is also a time and place for multiplayer games, and we definitely have enough of them.

With some multiplayer games often losing sight of the game's narrative in order to focus more on the features that can be accessed with groups of people, it would be a shame to see titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 lose its identity in this way. However, that has not stopped fans from calling out for a multiplayer mode for the CD Projekt RED RPG since it was first launched back in 2020. We can only be glad that it did not include one, however, as the launch would have turned from bad to worse in record time.

Whilst CD Projekt RED admits that it was happy with its decision to keep Cyberpunk 2077 a single-player experience, we do not yet know if this will be the case for the upcoming sequel, currently codenamed, Project Orion. Will the studio finally give in and add a multiplayer mode? Or will it stick to its guns, focusing more on a single-player narrative experience. I know which one I would choose, but that has not stopped some creators from giving fans what they want.

That is the case for Cyber_MP over on YouTube who has created a fan-made Deathmatch Multiplayer Mod for Cyberpunk 2077. Showing off the experience in a YouTube Short, we can see the deathmatch in action, and it offers pretty much what you would expect from this well-known game mode. Players will be able to take on the role of various Cyberpunk 2077 characters and run around the map gunning each other down in order to hit the top of the leaderboard.

The full video was shared to Cyber_MP's YouTube channel two years ago, so it is currently unclear how this project is faring in 2026. However, that did not stop viewers from sharing their thoughts on the unofficial multiplayer mod for Cyberpunk 2077.

"Ok, animations aside, that genuinely looks amazing," the top comment reads. "Players aren't lagging, damage is registering properly, and there's a killfeed. A truly superb job." Another agreed, adding, "This is wild. I can't even begin to guess what's going on under the hood. It takes some brains to go, "this game has absolutely no internal framework for multiplayer at all. But like what if I made it have that" and for it to F**KING WORK. Genuinely wild; really impressive. I look forward to the future of the project!"

Cyber_MP is no stranger to the occasional Cyberpunk 2077 mod, so if you wish to try out more projects such as this, make sure to check out their YouTube channel and show them some support.
