Fans of both Hogwarts Legacy and Valheim may likely have sought out similar games to satiate the inevitable itch they both leave behind, but rarely is there a game that truly encapsulates the best elements of both titles, either simultaneously or indeed individually. It is a shame, as the settings of both titles, their unique approach to magic, survival, and crafting, and their shared love of enormous open-world spaces are perfect.

Fortunately, there is a brand-new open-world RPG that is attempting to offer an experience that combines the best concepts from both of these games, albeit with its own unique twist. It captures the magic, scale, combat, fantasy, creature collecting, and more from Hogwarts Legacy and the survival crafting, boss encounters, base building, and more from Valheim. It truly is the best of both games congealed into one experience, and it could be the ultimate title for fans desperate for brand-new Hogwarts Legacy content or a successor to the seemingly unbeatable Valheim.

Released on June 10, 2026, Witchspire (not to be confused with the other witch-based open-world crafting game, Witchbrook) is a huge open-world survival crafting game that, as aforementioned, blends many elements of Hogwarts Legacy's core gameplay loop with Valheim. Players explore a vast world, fending off corrupted beasts, taming creatures to utilize them in crafting, building bases, battling bosses, and whizzing around on their brooms. It all sounds exceptionally like Valheim in execution, but the creature taming, witch-theme, and focus on spells and magic in combat absolutely play into Hogwarts Legacy's strengths.

Sure, this isn't quite the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy 2 many had hoped for, but it sounds as if it has all the ingredients players would want in a spiritual successor. The magic theme isn't a novel skin shrouding otherwise generic Valheim-inspired gameplay either. Players will need to cast spells to summon pickaxes, axes, and watering cans to help with gathering resources; they'll use spells in battle, and can even astral project to reach previously inaccessible parts of their base to make constructing buildings significantly easier. It's a great addition that fixes an otherwise fiddly problem.

Witchspire has already garnered acclaim from users on Steam, with 82% of its over 1,200 reviews (at the time of writing) being positive. One user said, "Witchspire is a gorgeous exploration, survival, magic game with lush, bright, whimsical scenery and a nice storyline," while another called it "the start of an awesome game." It is worth noting that Witchspire is in Early Access on Steam, with the developers expecting it to stay there for around a year. The core features are included in the EA release, with the developer using this time to implement player feedback and new ideas.

Even in its current state, Witchspire feels like a forgotten Harry Potter game, one that cleverly utilizes its spells and magic in interesting ways to enhance an otherwise strong survival crafting loop. Currently, it isn't perfect, with many users reporting bugs and missing content, but for $22.99, it could be the Valheim x Hogwarts Legacy crossover you've always dreamed of (or maybe have just realized is a thing). Regardless, Witchspire may be one to keep an eye on over the next year, especially for fans of both Hogwarts Legacy and Valheim.
